Starting preschool is a big step for both children and families. At St Paul’s Preschool, we aim to make the transition as calm, reassuring and positive as possible.
Settling in
Every child settles in differently. Some children feel confident quickly, while others need more time, reassurance and support.
We work closely with parents and carers to help each child feel safe, secure and ready to enjoy preschool life. If a child becomes very upset, we will contact parents and keep communication open throughout the settling-in process.
Parents are also welcome to contact us to check how their child is getting on.
What to wear
Children should come to preschool in comfortable, practical clothes suitable for active and sometimes messy play.
We recommend:
- Easy-to-wash clothing
- Comfortable shoes suitable for play
- Wellies and waterproofs for outdoor activities
- Warm coats during colder months
- Sun hats and labelled sun cream in warmer weather
- Clearly labelled clothing, footwear and belongings
Illness guidance
If your child is unwell, please keep them at home until they are well enough to return.
Children should not attend preschool if they have sickness or diarrhoea and must be clear for at least 48 hours before returning.
If your child has a medical condition, requires medication or needs regular monitoring, please speak to the manager before they start so suitable arrangements can be made.
Collection arrangements
Parents should let staff know who will usually collect their child.
If someone different is collecting, this must be arranged with the preschool in advance and a password must be provided.
Children will only be released to a parent, known carer or authorised person who can provide the correct password.
Session times
St Paul’s Preschool session times can include:
- Breakfast Club from 8.15am
- Morning sessions from 9.00am to 12.00pm or 1:00pm with lunch
- Afternoon sessions from 12.00am to 3.00pm
- Full day sessions from 9.00am to 3.00pm
Please confirm current session availability with the preschool team.
Late collection
Please collect your child promptly at the end of their session. Repeated late collection may result in additional charges.
